App name generator
Describe your idea and get ten name suggestions with short taglines. Each is checked against the live US App Store, so you can see straight away if a name is already taken.
Step by step
How it works
- 1Describe your app idea in a sentence or two.
- 2Choose a vibe: any, playful, serious, minimal or techy.
- 3Get 10 names with taglines, then watch each one get checked against the US App Store.
- 4Shortlist the free ones and check trademarks before you commit.
What makes a good app name
The best app names are short, easy to spell after hearing them once, and easy to say aloud. Apps get recommended by word of mouth and in voice conversations, so a name that people have to spell out loses referrals.
Avoid names that are only the category ("Budget App"). They are impossible to search for and impossible to own. Invented words and short compound words are easier to rank for because there is little competing for them.
What the App Store check does and does not tell you
The check searches the US App Store for apps with the same or a very similar name. Free means we found no exact match. Similar means a close name exists. Taken means an app already uses it.
This is not a trademark search. A name can be free on the App Store and still be a registered trademark of a company in another category or country. Before you commit, search your national trademark database and check the domain and social handles.
Apple limits how fast we can look names up, so the first eight names are checked and the rest are shown unchecked.
Next steps after you pick a name
Check the domain, the social handles, and say the name aloud to a friend. Then write the App Store title and subtitle with your keywords in them. The App Store description generator on this site helps with that.

Frequently asked questions
Does 'free' mean I can use the name?
It only means no matching app was found on the US App Store. Always check trademarks and your target countries before launching.
Why are only some names checked?
Apple throttles lookups, so we check the first eight names to keep the tool fast and reliable.
Can I regenerate for more ideas?
Yes. Change the description or the vibe and generate again.
Does the name affect App Store search?
Your title and subtitle are indexed for search, so including a keyword there helps. Use the listing generator to work on that.
Is it free?
Yes, with a fair-use limit to keep it available for everyone.
