App Store competitor analyzer

Find your real competitors, see how your rating and review count stack up, and read what their unhappy users are saying. Free, no sign-up, and built on public App Store data.

Step by step

How it works

  1. 1Paste your App Store link, or type your app's name.
  2. 2We read your public listing and find the apps your users compare you with.
  3. 3We pull each rival's rating, review count, price and update history, then summarise the complaints in their recent low-star reviews.
  4. 4You get a short comparison, the biggest opening, and three hook ideas for short videos.

Why competitor analysis matters for an indie app

Most indie apps never compete on features alone. They compete on being discovered, and discovery is a comparison: a person searching the App Store looks at a handful of apps side by side and picks one in seconds. Knowing exactly how you look next to the apps in that shortlist tells you where to put your effort.

A rating gap, a review-count gap, or a rival that has not shipped an update in a year are all openings. This tool surfaces them without you opening ten listings in ten tabs.

What the numbers tell you

Rating and review count together. A 4.8 from 40 people reads very differently from a 4.7 from 40,000. Low counts mean the average is fragile; one bad review can move it. High counts mean social proof you cannot out-argue, so compete on a specific audience instead.

Last updated. An app that has not been updated in many months is a gift: you can credibly position yourself as actively maintained.

Low-star reviews. This is the most useful part. Recurring complaints about a rival (a paywall that arrived, a confusing sign-up, crashes after an iOS update) are ready-made reasons for someone to try you instead.

Turning a gap into marketing

A complaint like "I can't log a meal without creating an account" becomes a short video: show your app logging a meal in two taps with no account. You are not attacking anyone; you are demonstrating the thing people say they want. That is why the tool ends with video hooks, not just a table.

Where the data comes from

Everything shown is public information from the App Store listing and its customer reviews. The comparison and the video ideas are written by AI from that data only, so treat them as a starting point to check, not as fact.

Frequently asked questions

Is this tool really free?

Yes. There is no sign-up and no limit beyond a fair-use cap to keep it fast for everyone.

Does it work for any App Store country?

If you paste a link, it uses that link's country. If you type a name, it searches the US App Store.

How are competitors chosen?

AI suggests apps your users would realistically compare you with, then we look each one up on the App Store. If an app can't be found, it is skipped.

Is the review analysis accurate?

It summarises a sample of the most recent public reviews, which is enough to spot patterns but not a full audit. Open the App Store links to check anything you plan to act on.

What do I do with the video angles?

Use them as the on-screen hook of a short video for TikTok, Reels or Shorts. Appzoku can turn them into ready-to-post reels for your app in minutes.
