Quote and meme posts for your app's Instagram: how to make them worth saving

How to write original quote and relatable meme posts for an app's Instagram, five design styles that work, and what to avoid.

Quote and meme posts look easy, and most of them are forgettable. The ones that get saved are specific to an audience, short, and designed so the idea is the only thing you read. Here is how to make them for an app without sounding like a motivational poster.

What makes a quote worth saving

  • It is about your audience's actual life. "A route is proof you showed up" lands with runners; "believe in yourself" lands with nobody.
  • It is short. Fourteen words or fewer. If it needs a second sentence, it is a tip, not a quote.
  • It has one idea. One card, one thought.
  • It is yours. Write original lines. Do not attribute a line to a real person unless it is a verified quote, and do not lightly reword famous ones.

Memes that work without being risky

The formats that travel best are "POV:", "Me:" and "Nobody:". Put the setup in the first line and the punchline in the second. Keep the target the shared frustration, never a person, a brand, a health condition or a group of people.

Five looks that suit a quote card

  • Paper. An off-white, slightly textured card with a serif typeface. Mark the key phrase in italics and circle it by hand. Calm and editorial.
  • Highlighter. A linen-coloured card with bold type and a marker-yellow stripe behind the words that matter. Direct and friendly.
  • Night. Black, small light text, the key words in bold white. Minimal, almost a whisper.
  • Poster. A dark, moody background (a photo works best) with large condensed type. Strong and cinematic.
  • Handwritten. A pale paper card with handwritten type and a wavy underline under the key words. Personal and warm.

Whichever you pick, mark one phrase, keep the margins generous and put your app's name small at the bottom so the post can be traced back without turning into an ad.

Build a series, not a one-off

A carousel of four or five quotes in the same style, ending with one gentle line about the app, performs better as a keepsake than a single card. People save the set. Vary the style between posts so the grid does not look uniform.

Do not forget readability

Check contrast: dark text on a light card and light text on a dark card, never mid-grey on mid-grey. Text should be readable at the size of a grid thumbnail.

Making them with Appzoku

Post Studio writes quote carousels and relatable or sarcastic meme posts for your app's topic, picks the key words to mark, and gives each post one of the five looks above (Paper, Highlighter, Night, Poster, Handwritten). You can change the look, edit every line and rewrite any card. It remembers what it has already written for your app, so the next batch has different ideas.

Can I use famous quotes on my app's Instagram?

It is safer to write original lines. Misattributed quotes are common and easy to call out, and reworded famous quotes look unoriginal.

How long should an Instagram quote post be?

About fourteen words or fewer. A longer idea belongs in a tip or a caption.

What makes a meme post safe for a brand?

Aim the joke at a shared everyday frustration, not at a person, brand or health condition, and keep the language clean.
