You already have the best raw material for Instagram content: the screenshots on your App Store page. Turning them into a carousel takes about ten minutes once you know the method. This guide covers the choices that matter, with or without a tool.
Why real screenshots beat generated ones
Image generators can invent an app screen in seconds, but they invent the details: labels, buttons, numbers that do not exist in your app. On a post that promotes a real product, that is misleading and it erodes trust. Use your actual screens and let design and copy do the rest.
Step by step
- 1Choose the story, not the screens. Decide the one thing the carousel will say, for example "see your whole week at a glance". Then pick the three or four screenshots that show it.
- 2Write the cover first. Slide one is a promise or a question about the user's problem, not your app's name. Keep it to eight words or fewer.
- 3One point per slide. Each content slide gets a short headline and one screenshot. If a slide needs two ideas, make it two slides.
- 4Frame the screens. Put each screenshot in a phone frame with the top of the screen visible and the bottom bleeding off the slide. It reads as the real device and leaves room for the headline above.
- 5Handle marketing graphics differently. If a screenshot already includes a device and a headline, show it full-bleed, not inside another frame.
- 6End with one call to action. A single line and "link in bio". Do not stack three asks.
- 7Write the caption. Repeat the hook, add one useful line, end with a soft call to action, and add six to ten hashtags specific to your category.
Size and layout
A 4:5 portrait image (1080 by 1350 pixels) takes up the most room in the Instagram feed without being cropped, so it is the best default for carousels. Use 9:16 for stories and 1:1 only when you need a square for another platform. Keep text away from the outer edge so nothing is cut off in a grid preview.
Colour and type
Take your accent colour from the app icon, use one headline font and one body font, and keep the same background across the slides so the set looks like one piece. A dark background with a bright accent is the safe choice for most apps; a light one suits calm categories like journaling or self-care.
Doing it with Appzoku
Post Studio does these steps from your App Store link: it reads your listing and screenshots, writes the headlines, picks which screenshot goes on which slide, applies colours from your icon, frames the screens (or shows marketing graphics full-bleed), and exports 4:5, square or story PNGs. You can swap any screenshot, upload your own newer ones, and edit every word. Free accounts can write and preview posts; downloading the images needs a paid plan.
What size should Instagram carousel images be?
1080 by 1350 pixels (4:5 portrait) is the most space-efficient size in the feed. Use 1080 by 1920 for stories.
Can I use my App Store screenshots on Instagram?
They are your own marketing assets, so yes. Put them in a frame and add a headline so each slide makes a point instead of repeating the store listing.
How many screenshots should a carousel use?
Three or four content slides is plenty, plus a cover and a call to action. Fewer, clearer slides get finished and shared more.
